Counting Calories? You've Got to Be Kidding?

How many meals a day do I need to build muscle?
How many times a day should I eat to get lean?
How many calories do I need?
How much protein, carbs and fat?
These questions are asked by everyone who starts training for the first time.
How many times have you heard that you need to eat 5-6 meals per day to pack on muscle or to “stoke” the fire to keep the metabolism running high?
That you need to pre pack your food, eat every two hours and have a balanced diet of proteins, fats and carbs?
You have seriously got to be kidding me.
Who the hell has the time or desire to do that shit anyway?
Alright, I admit it. Ive actually done it at once in my life, but wouldn't dream of it ever again.
It’s completely insane and absolutely unnecessary!
Over the last twenty years I have chose to make things extremely simple when it comes to dieting.
Now this is probably going to blow peoples minds, but are you ready for the big revel…….I eat when Im hungry and don't when I'm not. TA DAAA!
It’s actually extremely liberating and gives you a total sense of freedom. No pre packing your lunch, tupperware containers or weighing your food any longer.
Now I dont know about you, but that sounds like a damn nightmare to me.
The old way of thinking, that to keep your metabolism running at full speed is dead, and has been for years.
If you don’t eat every two hours your metabolism will slow down?
Yeah right, lol.
You’ll get fat, loose muscle and get weak.
Bullshit. Not even a shot.
I've tested this theory a hundred times over and it hasn't made the slightest difference in my strength or how I look. Sure, you may be able to get five pounds bigger or ten pounds stronger on your deadlift but is it really worth the physical and emotional torture you put on yourself through on a daily basis?
Not for me its not.
I've gone for years eating 4500 calories a day and years eating 1500 a day.
Ya know what, I am in a hell of a lot better shape, healthier, leaner and just as strong on 1500 a day then 4500. Im also less stressed, happier and wealthier then I was back then. That shit gets damn expensive!
Eating six meals a day or every two hours is ridiculous, plain and simple.
Having to eat every two hours is just more baggage and more stress that you just don't need.
It’s like owning more shit when you have way to much to begin with already.
There is no scientific proof that eating six meals a day stokes the metabolism or that it will make you 20 percent stronger.
I train with guys and girls every single day of my life that eat quadruple what I eat and you know what? I am just as strong as they are. And most of the time have more energy and can out perform them.
Lets think about this for a second:
Do you honestly think that if you don't eat every few hours that your body is going to dip into a catabolic state?
It’s physically impossible. And if it was true, you would see nothing but 120 pound men strolling the streets on a daily basis.
How do you think the gladiators had the energy to fight, or the Greeks or Trojans? Not by packing in the calories every two hours, Ill tell you that much. They couldn't, it wasn't available to them.
“Bodybuilders and fitness competitors have to almost starve themselves and take extreme measures to deplete glycogen levels for 3-7 days before a show. I’m sure that going longer than 2-3 hours between meals isn’t going to deplete yours.”
When eating all day long you are stressing the body to unhealthy levels, never giving the digestive system a chance to fully heal.
When digestive health is compromised nothing will function properly.
You Cant Get Big Or Strong On Low Calories!
Really??
Now this is where the bodybuilders and powerlifters come in and start going nuts on me. But here goes:
All of the old time strongmen and bodybuilders ate three meals per day.
Vince Gironda’s diets consisted of three meals a day as did John McCallum’s.
Six meals a day? You're crazy.
Throughout time, men ate three meals. Bottom line.
And if it was good enough for Arthur Saxon, it’s good enough for you.
So get on the path to physical and mental freedom.
Eat when you're hungry and don't when you're not. Its that simple.
Stick with lean protein, green vegetables, and a few berries.
Lots of water, a solid amount of sleep and a consistent exercise regiment.
