The Excuses Won't Cut It Much Longer

After a twenty year run in the fitness industry, I have been extremely blessed to have had the opportunity to work with an exceedingly vast group of individuals. A community from all walks of life including weekend warriors, professional athletes, fortune 500 executives and some of hollywoods finest actors and actresses. I have spent over two decades helping individuals reach their physical and emotional best.
I’ve dealt with the ninety percent and had the pleasure of serving the ten percent. The ninety percent who complain and make endless excuses. The ones who blame their failures on others and refuse to take responsibility for their actions. They speak about change, but its just words and words without action are meaningless. We call this group of people the “talkers.”
We can’t just speak about change or about the things that plague us daily. We can’t complain, or hope to better ourselves and not do something about it. Change is resisted and feared by most. I sat for years, stagnant, living with anxiety and on edge. We claim we want results, but results won’t come without change. Actions speak louder than words. Those words not only speak, but they scream.
So the question is simple. Are you truly willing to do whatever it takes and put in the work it requires? The ten percent are.The ten percent that actually walk the walk and do whatever it takes to succeed. The ten percent that will wake up early and go to bed late to get it done. The ones that will prioritize and not make excuses. The ones that will find the time, and commit to greatness. We call this group of people the “doers.”
When I first got started in the business back in 94’ I had zero patience. I couldn't be bothered with beginners, lazy individuals and people who constantly made excuses. But as the years went on, my thought process started to shift. The ones who annoyed me in the past, now started to intrigue me. I wanted to learn more about the human psyche, and why people struggled so much. I committed myself to learning why so many made excuses and what fears they were facing behind closed doors. Why they couldn't get started, and once they did, why they couldn't stick with it. I wanted to learn more about the psychology of people and get into their heads to help better serve them. I wanted to help people find physical and emotional strength.
The problem most people face today is they want instant gratification. If it takes time, commitment and hard work, most individuals opt out. To not just be average takes work. You must walk the walk and execute a devised plan. I cant speak for everyone out there, but I would think most men would want to achieve a lean muscular physique. Nice arms and round shoulders. While every women may strive for a flat stomach and nice butt. The alpha male meets the strong empowered women.
So why is it so difficult for people to get involved in true physical fitness these days? Work, family, and kids right? Thats the excuse you're going to throw out to the world, aren't you? You just don't have the time, I know. You worked all day and now you have to get your son or daughter to soccer practice.
So how about we do this. We’re going to find you a solution. Because as important as work, kids and family life are, so it your physical health. So, you’re going to train at the field from now on. The park, the playground or wherever you are. You're going to do pushups, chin-ups, planks and mountain climbers. You're going to sprint, do bodyweight progressions and use the monkey bars. You're going to shoot hoops, kick a soccer ball and throw a baseball. You're going stretch, do mobility work and take a long walk.
Within two weeks your life will be changed, guaranteed. You’re going to make a commitment though. A commitment to positive, healthy change.
Thirty minutes a day, three times a week. Whether you're at home, the gym, the park or play ground. Physical activity can be performed anywhere and at any given time. There are no rules and nothing is set in stone. The days don't matter, nor does the time. The exercise selection means nothing. Run, walk, push, pull, climb or jump. Don't let a life of past excuses, laziness and fear dictate how you move forward in the years to come. Get in the game and remember, “If something in life is important to you, you’ll make the time, if it's not, you’ll make excuses.
