Nutritional Madness

Another holiday weekend has come and gone. A relaxing few days with friends, family and loved ones. Some home cooked food, a few drinks and beautiful weather.

Steaks were on the grill, salad was chilling in the fridge and dessert was being prepped. Life was good.

Because I enjoy entertaining so much, I generally like open up my home to many other families in the neighborhood. To come eat, stop by for a drink or just hang out for a few hours. Now with that kind of generosity, you are always subject to the possibility of some jerk off getting to drunk and making some kind of idiotic statement that completely pisses you off.

“Hey man, I thought you were in the fitness industry. You're gonna eat desert? As he gives me a little smirk and snickers under his breath ” You better believe it asshole, I replied. “Don't you care about your diet” Not today buddy and I recommend you don't either.

See, the fact of the matter is, when you are in a position of authority, people tend to judge, and judge quickly. They tend to think that just because you help others on a daily basis that you are some kind of immortal figure who can't ever and will never do wrong.

The truth of the matter is, I do wrong all the time. I eat shit once in a while, drink alcohol, and occasionally miss a training session due to my insane work schedule. Does that make me unqualified to do my job? It must mean I’m breaking the rules, right?

The unwritten code amongst the industries finest. Grilled chicken and broccoli. Thats what I’m allowed right? Or how about brown rice and salmon. To quote a very good buddy of mine, “Get the fuck outta here, I’m human, I mean come on".

People seem to think that diet and nutrition are so damn complicated these days. And you know what, from what the media leads you to believe, it is. The other day I was surfing the internet for fun and googled, “best diets for 2015”. A common search amongst most individuals I thought to myself. The results were an absolute joke!

Isagenix, The Dash Diet, The Mediterranean Diet, The Cookie Diet, I mean seriously? The Cookie Diet? Jenny Craig, Slimfast, Nutrisystem, South Beach, Zone, Atkins, Alkaline, and the almighty Paleo diet, just to name a few.

This shit would confuse the hell out of anyone, even me, if I didn't know any better.

Large food companies who put together multi million dollar marketing schemes to pray on the weak. What will the confused, sucker consumer buy next? After they make millions on one and exhaust that product, their will be another, and another.

Evolution took place over millions of years. How things evolved over a period of time has done wonders for this country and made it what it is and who we are today. But what happened to our nutritional choices over time and when did such mass confusion start to set in?

Nutrition should primarily consist of meat, veggies, fruit and nuts, period. But you know what, Im gonna have that drink when I want it and that piece of cake on occasion. Because life is short and you never know when its going to come to an end. It may sound like a cliched statement, but cliched or not, its the cold hard truth.

People tell me all the time, this will kill you, that will give you cancer. You know what, maybe it will, but I sure as hell intend to live every moment to the fullest and enjoy the things I want to enjoy.

I know a few individuals that can’t even leave their home without getting sick. They can’t fly, they can’t have a sip of alcohol, they can’t do anything without coming down with something. Without being laid up in bed for the next several days because their immune system is so pathetically weak. Because they haven't exposed themselves to reality or the real world. It’s absolutely ridiculous. I haven't been sick in the last eight years, and if I do come down with a cold, I'm able to fight it off in a day, than I'm back to normal.

The stress people put on themselves regarding diet and nutrition these days is absolutely insane. So you know what, I’m saying screw it!

Be smart with your food selections. Make sure to exercise daily and keep everything in moderation. Eat a good amount of fruits, vegetables and lean proteins. Stay well hydrated and do your best to minimize stress. But most importantly, enjoy life. Constantly stressing about what dietary choices to make on a daily basis will be sure to kill you long before having a drink and a piece of cake on occasion. Trust me.

Enjoy life, it could be taken away at the blink of an eye. Don't regret it.
